Pigeon Song

A song I have regularly sang to myself in the morning for a few years now. It also features in a a short film that I made that can never be shown. It’s pretty depressing really… though vaguely more relevant.

London, did you have to

take my child away?

you buried him under

rent and low pay.

I’ve been cycling in circles

round your empty streets.

i’ve been searching

in the pouring rain.

I’ve been going alone

to the cinema

I’ve been stealing all my food

from the electric avenue

now the pigeons gather

round my feeding hand.

and we talk til the evening fades.

I have learnt how it goes

what you wait for never shows

and what you least wanted

holds you down like a stone.

just like a stone.

Now i feed the birds.

day after day.

only they can hear me pray for

a lighter heart. a lighter load

to be moving. moving. moving

my way home

Desire
Desire
Desire
Desire, desire
Deep down inside of me
You are not the maker nor the master of me

Help me to better support my family
And better, better of a brother be

Desire, desire
Deep down inside of me
You are not the wrecker nor the ruler of me…

The reviews on the Patrick Wolf Discography have been second to none - and I have even discovered PW songs I haven’t heard before like-  what? - I suck at being an obsessive fan.

dearest new friend. I started out on this journey at eleven to make this communication to you. Not that I had much to communicate then but taking the path to here has certainly given me something to share. so. Lycanthropy for me is a survival instinct in the face of a full moon, barriers-bushes-intellectuals, bogiemen and fear-failure. you grow these thick dark hairs – claws, sharp teeth and you crawl on all fours till the sun comes up. so – here you go! it’s all yours. till next time joy! Patrick.
